Hanson Aggregates has ordered 37 modified JCB Groundhogs for use in its quarrying operations.
The aggregates company liked the Groundhogs' performance and wanted to use them as an alternative to road-going pick-ups or 4x4s.
Hanson's procurement manager Meir Rofe said the Groundhog proved it was capable of performing well in a quarrying environment, but required modifications to ensure the safety and comfort of the operator.
JCB's engineers worked with Hanson to develop a fully glazed two-man ROPS cab for the tipping-bodied Groundhog. Hanson has specified the cabs on 6x4 chassis (with permanent four-wheel drive) and hard-wearing tyres better suited to running in quarries.
