Three groups have checked in for a £67m PFI deal to build a leisure centre in Wigan.
The council has lined up Access (Hochtief/Amec) Community Solutions (Operon/Shepherd) and Information Resources (Kier Group) to pitch for a scheme which the client claims will "completely revitalise leisure and community facilities".
The centre will be built on the site of the current Town Hall and includes a library, swimming pool, exercise and health facilities and a GP surgery.
The preferred bidder is due to surface in January, with work on site likely to start next summer.
The government has already stumped up £6.8m worth of credits towards the project.
