HBG has edged out two rivals to win the contract for a £300m revamp of the Northgate area of Chester.
This means the end of the road for two other contenders – Carillion and Laing O’Rourke.
The centrepiece for the scheme, for joint clients Dutch developer ING Real Estate and Chester City Council, comprises a 41,000m2 shopping complex, which will include some 60 shops anchored by a 13,470m2 House of Fraser store.
The overall development, aimed at regenerating a part of the city centre, also includes 112 homes, a new bus station, market and library, a performing arts centre and a multi-storey car park for at least 600 vehicles.
