JCB averts strike by back-tracking on monthly pay

By Contract Journal Staff

JCB has averted the threat of industrial action by reversing its decision to move weekly-paid workers at three of its UK sites to monthly pay.

GMB Union senior organiser Keith Hodgkinson said the switch represented a contractual change for his members and had demanded a financial incentive to do so.

Having balloted 1,200 workers, almost 70% of the votes cast were in favour of invoking an overtime ban, while 50.5% of the voters wanted to take strike action.
