London's pioneering Construction Consolidation Centre (CCC) in Bermondsey will shut unless the industry embraces the concept, one of the companies behind the project has warned.
Gary Sullivan, managing director of construction logistics specialist Wilson James, said the CCC needs another six projects to come on board to secure its future. He said: "There's a great danger that if we don't take it forward, then it will be lost for another 10 years."
His views were echoed by Paul Simms, account manager UK South and Stanhope for Bovis Lend Lease. He said: "We have not been smart enough as an industry to squeeze all the possible benefits out."
A report last week found the Bermondsey CCC, which consolidates building materials from a number of different suppliers before feeding them onto the sites as required, has achieved a delivery reliability of 97% compared with the industry average of 50%, and cut site waste by 15%.
