Olympic Delivery Authority: First packages of infrastructure work announced

Major contractors are ready for a £300m-£360m deal to deliver the first packages of infrastructure work for the 2012 Olympics.

The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) has divided the project into four packages, with the avowed aim of maximising interest from a broad range of companies.

The ODA is expected to name its preferred bidders early next year and plans to advertise further packages of work in September and during next year.

The contracts:

Olympic Park North Area Roads and Bridges (£110m-£130m)

Work involved: 5km of roads, 3 bridges, 2 underpasses, retaining walls

Bidders: Balfour Beatty; Costain; Skanska

Olympic Park South Area Roads and Bridges (£80m-£90m)

Work involved: 3km of loop roads, 4 road bridges, 1 footbridge, retaining walls

Rail Overbridges (£90m-£120m)

Work involved: 3 land bridges, 2 road bridges, retaining walls

Bidders: Balfour Beatty; Hochtief; Morgan Est; Norwest Holst

Main Stadium Area Bridges (£20m-£30m) 

Work involved: 1 road bridge, 5 footbridges, retaining walls

Bidders: Balfour Beatty; Edmund Nuttall; Fitzpatrick; Kier; Sir Robert McAlpine
