Demand for scaffolding training is now beginning to outstrip supply with CITB-ConstructionSkills allocating an emergency £500,000 to establish two new temporary training facilities.
A report on scaffolder training to the latest meeting of the training board says that "over the past two years there has been an unprecedented surge in demand such that the National Construction College’s facilities are now working at full capacity and cannot meet customer demand."
The report adds that pressure on facilities has been increased by the decision of the sector’s registration scheme to cease to offer a shorter assessment route of entry to skill card accreditation.
It is now intended to purchase the Haki system for providing temporary scaffolding training structures with these being located at the NCC Midlands and Erith centres. The temporary structure option has been adopted on grounds of speed, cost, and flexibility.
