Four firms are on parade for a prime contract top-secret project, worth between £60m and £100m, to redevelop an RAF base in East Anglia.
The line-up for the RAF Wyton deal in Huntingdon is Amec Design & Projects, Carillion Defence, Skanska Integrated Projects and Debut Services, a division of Bovis Lend Lease.
The combatants have until November to price the scheme, with the Ministry of Defence expected to award the contract about a year later.
The job comes under the umbrella of the Official Secrets Act, but it is understood that delivery of the project is scheduled for 2010 and that further work at the base could be inserted into the contract at a later stage.
The scheme includes new build, refurbished or extended office accommodation on site and sports facilities, plus infrastructure and demolition projects.
