Mastic asphalt roofing workers have agreed a 9.5% pay increase over the next two years. The settlement is backdated to 26 June this year. It provides a 4.75% increase in basic rates this year, followed by a further 4.75% in 2008.
Meanwhile, building and civil engineering workers at Fawley refinery are being balloted this week on a new three-year pay deal. The TGWU section of Unite is recommending acceptance of a 4.5% increase this year, 5% in 2008, and 5.5% in 2009. Again, the offer is backdated to 26 June.
In the materials sector, increases of 4% have been agreed for workers at Castle Cement, Hanson Aggregates, and Marshalls Mono Concrete. Lafarge Cement has settled for 4.25%.
