A 26-year-old man has died after the hydraulic crane he was operating struck powerlines, estimated to be carrying 11,000 volts, while he was unloading building supplies.

Witnesses said that the unnamed man, who was working in West Horton Lane, Eastleigh, Hampshire, was thrown almost three metres by the force of the shock.

It is not known who the man was working for.
