Over a thousand Metronet workers have voted to strike, amid concerns that the administrators of the failed Tube maintenance firm could not guarantee against job losses or forced transfers.
In a ballot of Metronet workers belonging to the Rail Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT), Transport Salaried Staff’s Association (TSSA) and Unite unions, 1,369 voted in favour of industrial action. Just 70 voted against.
Union bosses will meet administrators for further discussions on Wednesday. They will set dates for industrial action on Thurday if no progress is made.
RMT general secretary Bob Crow said: "Our members have said with a single, united voice that they are not prepared to be made to pay for the failure of the PPP with their jobs, conditions or pensions."
Meanwhile Unite assistant general secretary Jennie Bremner said: "This ‘yes’ vote gives Unite the mandate to take strike action against Metronet’s shameful plan to cut hundreds of jobs and outsource a further one thousand."
