Venco supplies filters on Controlled excavators

Kubota dealer Venco has supplied the Controlled Group with modified KX41-3 mini excavators fitted with diesel particulate filters to work on internal demolition.

Unlike the permanent filters being considered to meet the London Best Practice Guide, the EHC Teknik filters have replaceable elements that are changed when the backpressure gets too high and therefore do not need to reach regenerating temperatures. In fitting the filters to the roof, Venco has avoided reducing the operator's visibility and minimised burn hazards, while allowing the filters to be moved from one machine to another in about 90 minutes.

"We have sized the filters so they can be used on other machines, such as a skidsteer, if needed," said Venco managing director Danny Spaven. Including roof strengthening and installation, Spaven said the system costs around £1,500 per machine.

A diaphragm in the connection system sets the maximum allowable backpressure to 90millibar for the Kubotas and vents to atmosphere (with a whistle) when this is exceeded. Replacement elements cost around £120 and Spaven said with the machines running on red diesel each element lasts about six weeks.
