A boom lift operator became trapped under his machine after it toppled over into a Nottingham city centre street earlier this afternoon.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that it was called to the incident at 12:38pm today, after reports that the boom lift, bearing Nationwide's livery, fell into Milton Street near the Victoria Centre.

Witnesses are said to have heard a loud bang and a shout, before the machine came crashing down.

A spokeswoman for the fire service told CJ that the man had already been freed from the cherry picker by the time ambulance crews arrived, and firemen administered first aid.

The extent of the man's injuries are not yet known.

The HSE has been informed of the incident, and police have cordoned off the area around the accident.
