Latest figures confirm the Electrical Contractors Association's (ECA) status as the richest employer body in the construction industry. At the end of last year, the ECA had total assets of more than £85m. The figure for assets minus liabilities stood at £55m.
Returns posted to the Certification Office for trade unions and employer associations show the ECA boasted a membership of 2,868 firms at the end of 2007. Income from subscriptions was £2.6m, while total income (including investments) was £26m. Total ECA spending was £20m, giving the body a £6m surplus.
By contrast, the Federation of Master Builders (FMB) recorded a total of 13,171 members. Its total income was £4.8m and expenditure of £4.9m produced a small trading deficit. FMB overall assets were just £6.1m and assets less liabilities stood at £4.1m.
Figures for the Construction Confederation are not directly comparable because it acts as a service centre, but its income last year was £2.7m with expenditure of £1.9m. Its assets stood at £5.9m, with assets less liabilities of £2.3m.
