Derbyshire-based roofing company Advanced Roofing is to launch what it believes is the first recycling scheme for plastic sheet roofing.
The company has been working on a project to turn waste PVC single-ply roofing membranes into products such as road cones and barriers.
Gordon Harris, managing director of Advanced Roofing, is keen to set up a scheme that involves geographical 'cells' of contractors who would collect off-cuts and waste for recycling.
"Our material is virtually pure PVC, so it is an attractive prospect for manufacturers," Harris said.
"When single-ply roofs come off in volume, which they must since some are up to 40 years old, we want there to be a scheme in place to distribute the material back into the food chain, rather than send it to landfill."
