Five in hunt for Southampton college scheme

Five candidates are vying to make the grade on a £25m to £31m college project in Southampton.

Wates, Carillion, Leadbitter, Norwest Holst and local firm Trant Construction are on the register for the City College two-stage design and build deal, phases three to five.

The project centres on redeveloping the St Mary Street campus and includes around 9,000m2 of new buildings, 5,000m2 of refurbishment work, plus associated demolition and infrastructure works.

The intention is to start work on site in February, with completion due in 2010.
