An upgrade of the tube network could be sacrificed to pay for the construction of Crossrail, the Times reported today. The paper said that the government is preparing to announce that it will provide a third of the required £16bn cost of the scheme.
The Daily Mail and Daily Telegraph recorded Aggreko’s first half results, which saw a 60% jump in profits. Chief executive Rupert Soames said demand was strong across the world, with countries from Australia to the Middle East showing 25% year-on-year growth.
The Financial Times and Daily Telegraph reported on insulation and office fit-out firm SIG, which has seen sales pass £1bn for the first time in six months to June 30. SIG said it did not see the global credit squeeze having any effect on construction during 2007.
The Guardian reported another blow for home information packs as it emerged that the main trainer of energy assessors has been stripped of its status as an approved centre.
