ISG and Wates vie for Chelsea Academy

By Brian Warner

Three firms have been put through their paces for a £29m project as the race for the Chelsea Academy in west London enters the final lap.

Geoffrey Osborne, ISG Interior-Exterior and Wates have all attended interviews for the two-stage project.

But a source disclosed: "I think the contest is now only between ISG and Wates - Osborne looks to have missed out."

The challenge is to design and build a new city academy on a confined site in Lots Road.

The new Church of England school will cater for around 1,000 pupils and span about 10,700m2 over five floors.

The project may also include demolition work and service diversions.

The Department for Education and Skills, The London Diocese and Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea are jointly funding the project.
