HVCA president calls for action on Part L reg changes

The president of the Heating and Ventilating Contractors' Association (HVCA) has urged the government to enforce vital changes in Part L of the Building Regulations.

Speaking at the HVCA President's Lunch last week, John Miller warned that building control departments across the country are failing to police the tighter energy efficiency requirements introduced last year.

"The HVCA's disquiet arises from the fact that - having put such enlightened and environmentally responsible legislation in place - the government seems unable, or unwilling, to enforce it.

"Positive action must be taken now. The new regulations have teeth. Now they must be made to bite," he said.

On the rumoured merger between the HVCA and the Electrical Contractors Association, Miller did not rule it out, but said it would be up to the HVCA membership to decide.
