Clugston & Gleeson seal Lincs school work

Clugston and Gleeson Building (GBL) have been confirmed as winners of education sector deals in Lincolnshire, with a combined valued of around £38m.

As tipped by CJ earlier this year, Clugston has beaten GBL to the Wintringham Academy in Grimsby, while GBL has turned the tables on Clugston by taking the Immingham Academy deal at Immingham.

Both schemes are for Oasis, a religious charitable trust working in tandem with North East Lincolnshire Council and the Department for Education and Skills.

Oasis has a pool of framework contractors it can draw on to price academy schemes it plans to build.

AllenBuild also priced the Immingham scheme and it is understood that Bowmer & Kirkland and Kier also feature on the client’s select list in the North East region.

Both Wintingham and Immingham involve around 10,000m2 of new build, spanning between two and three storeys.

Completion is scheduled in around 18 months, at which time the existing college buildings on both sites will be demolished.

Each new college will cater for between 900 and 1,500 pupils.

The academies are two of up to 10 secondary school facilities Oasis Community Learning plans to build around the country.

■ Clugston has also bagged two more education schemes. A £6m deal at Askham Bryan and Prior Pursglove Colleges’ Guisborough campus involves building a new animal management centre.

And in County Durham, the firm has a £4.5m contract for the Vocational Learning Trust to build an industrial learning centre at Newton Aycliffe, where 14- to 19-year olds will learn vocational and industrial skills.

The project was initially held up because the site is close to the habitat of the endangered great crested newts, which first had to be trapped and relocated.
