The Quarry Products Association (QPA) has launched its third sustainable development report, which reveals that the market for recycled and secondary materials has reached 70 million tonnes, accounting for 26% of the total aggregates market.
The report also shows an improvement in health and safety performance, with members recording a 23% decline in reportable injuries.
On-site carbon dioxide emissions in the sector accounted for 0.5% of the UK total, a figure the QPA expects to be further reduced following its Statement of Intent.
The results are based on data from more than 1,800 industry locations, accounting for 70% of total industry output.
