Huge fire on Olympic site - PHOTOS

A huge fire has broken out in Stratford, east London, near to the site where the main stadium for the London Olympics will be built. A huge plume of black smoke is currently billowing across London.

The London Fire Brigade were called just after 12 noon today (Monday) to the fire in Waterden Road, Stratford. The road runs through the site where the 2012 Olympics will be held.

An Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) statement said: "The ODA can confirm that a fire in east London is within the Olympic Park site. The fire is on the western edge of the Olympic Park on the site of an empty warehouse, behind the bus depot on Waterden Road.

"The warehouse is in the process of being demolished. The London Fire Brigade is on site and the ODA’s site staff are working closely with them.”

It is not yet clear how the blaze started, or if there have been any casualties.

The Metropolitan Police is investigating the fire but has so far discounted a terrorist motive. "We have nothing to suggest that this anything other than a fire at the moment," said a police spokesman.

More news as we get it.
