The National House Building Council (NHBC) is set to formally recognise the zonal fixing method launched last year by the National Federation of Roofing Contractors (NFRC) in the spring edition of its Technical Standards.
The new fixing method was developed by the NFRC and manufacturers as a failsafe BS5534-compliant fixing specification across a whole roof.
It was drawn up after some housebuilders faced costly remedial work as a result of roofing contractors using incorrect mortar mixes that failed in stormy weather.
Kevin Ley, technical manager at Lafarge Roofing, said: "This is good news for the industry and not just for the housebuilders, because zonal fixings have already simplified both installation work and post-completion checks on site, as well as streamlining the initial specifications."
