Lafarge is due to increase onsite work at its proposed new cement works at Snodland, Kent, after beginning the final design, costing feasibility and contractor study for the project.
This stage of the project, which concludes next year, will put the company in a position to make a final decision on allocating the investment to build the 'Medway Works'.
Lafarge Cement UK's managing director Ergogan Pekenc said: "With general demand for cement growing in the UK, alongside the introduction of new large-scale projects such as Crossrail in the South East, it is a good time to move the project to the final design stage."
