The stadium, designed by HOK Sports, will serve as a centrepiece for the 2012 Olympic Games. Around the outside of the structure will be a fabric curtain - known as a 'wrap' - which will act as additional protection and shelter for spectators. It will be decorated with art - probably images of former Olympic greats.

Around the outside of the venue there will be an assortment of coloured 'pods', which will house facilities such as catering and merchandising.

Meanwhile the cable-supported roof will stretch 28 metres the whole way around the Stadium, covering two thirds of spectators.
