The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) announced today that the construction schedule for London 2012 is on track, after demolition work was completed on the ‘Big 5’ venue sites.

The ‘Big 5’ are: the Olympic Stadium, the Aquatics Centre, the IBC/MPC, the Velopark and the Olympic Village.

ODA Chairman John Armitt said: “This has been a year of solid progress on the ground in the preparations for the 2012 Games. Big challenges lie ahead but we have put in place strong foundations for the future.

“In 2008, we will change gear as we enter the start of the ‘Big Build’ phase with construction beginning in earnest in the summer.”

Key construction activity on the Olympic site in 2008 will include:

  • Acceleration of site decontamination work
  • Award of construction contracts for Velodrome and Aquatics Centre
  • Start of main construction phase

The document ‘Demolish, Dig, Design’ which sets out the ODA’s progress on site at the end of 2007 is available here.
