The National Construction College (NCC) has launched two training courses for those working with tower cranes: ‘Introduction to the Thorough Examination of Tower Cranes’ and ‘Introduction to the Management of Tower Cranes’.

“We already run an extensive training programme for operating tower cranes at the college,” said NCC plant manager Andy Newell, “but there is a definite need in the industry for training courses specifically focused on the maintenance of tower cranes.” The new courses have been developed with the Construction Plant-hire Association’s Tower Crane Interest Group and other industry partners.

The two-day ‘Introduction to the Management of the Thorough Examination of Tower Cranes’ course provides foundation training to those managing the examination regime. Delegates will be trained on the legal framework for the Health and Safety Regulations, the role of a competent person and an understanding of the ‘Thorough Examination of Tower Cranes’ report.

‘Introduction to the Thorough Examination of Tower Cranes’ is a three day course offering foundation training for those undertaking the actual on-site crane examinations. While it also covers the role of a competent person and the legal framework, a large proportion of time is spent on practical training for all the different inspections required.
