Five firms are in the hunt for the biggest-value package of works in a £41m scheme to revamp the Westgate area of Wakefield, West Yorkshire. And four more outfits are vying for the second-largest deal.
Lot 3, worth between £15m and £17m, has attracted Rock Harrison, Allenbuild, Tolent Construction, David McLean and Clegg Construction.
The job includes 4,800m2 of offices, a four-storey block of 66 apartments, retail accommodation and a new public square. Work on site for client English Cities Fund is expected to begin this spring and run for 88 weeks.
Lot 2 , valued between £11m and £13m, is for the construction of a multi-storey car park for around 1,500 vehicles.
The deal is being contested by HBG, Norwest Holst, Clugston and SCC.
Work on site is expected to last for a year.
