What site are you working on at the moment?

I'm currently working on the Wagon Road site in Rotherham, South Yorkshire as part of Bramall Construction's work with the Decent Homes initiative, Rotherham 2010.

What is the best site you have ever worked on and why?

Every site I have worked on with Bramall I have really enjoyed as I'm fully supported in my role and have a great team to work with. The company is extremely organised and its forward-thinking approach to training and customer service means my site team is highly trained and has a wealth of opportunities to keep them motivated.

And the worst?

Many years ago I worked for a company that refused to invest in any manner of customer service or site support, which made my job a nightmare. Through penny-pinching and an unprofessional approach, the company's management hindered the ability of the site teams. I wasn't able to do my job as site manager and consequently had to leave.

What is the most dangerous thing you have ever seen someone do on site?

At the same company I saw some scaffolding erected unsafely and so had to ask the subcontractors to leave the site.

What is the most frequently broken health and safety rule?

Lack of personal protective equipment, such as high-vis vests, is a nationwide problem, as it can irritate the workforce. However, it is extremely important for site safety that these items are worn at all times.

What are the three most important elements of a well-run, happy, site (aside from good health and safety)?

Treat others how you wish to be treated, talk to people in the correct manner and remember how you felt when you worked on the tools look after the team's wages and make sure you pay people for the work they've done, this will give them confidence in their work keep the team involved in the site activity, make them feel included by giving praise where praise is due and evaluating each job after it's finished.

Who makes the best tea on your current site, and what's their secret to the perfect cuppa?

Our site supervisor - he's the only person who will make it!
