Interpave thumbs-up for water strategy

By James Stagg

The government's water strategy for England and Wales has been welcomed by Interpave, which claims that concrete block permeable paving can make a significant contribution to a successful drainage strategy.

The document Future Water encourages the use of Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS), technology that has thus far only had limited take-up due to confusion over responsibilities and adoption. As a result, a consultation process to address the issues associated with the implementation of SUDS will be launched by the government.

The water strategy also highlights the problem of connecting new development surface water drainage to the public sewer - an issue that Interpave believes strengthens the case for permeable paving.

To encourage its uptake, Interpave has published guidance to aid the successful adoption of permeable paving under existing regimes.
