Barratt pulls out of English Partnership's carbon challenge project

Barratt has pulled out of English Partnership’s carbon challenge project in Peterborough due to being named preferred bidder on a rival eco-friendly proposal.

The housebuilding titan was one of six firms shortlisted before Christmas to draw up detailed designs for the 450-home project in Peterborough.

A spokesman for Barratt Developments said: “Barratt is preferred developer on the first Carbon Challenge site at Hanham Hall near Bristol and is investing significant resources in delivering this project of national importance in the shortest possible timeframe.

“We reviewed our land position in the Peterborough area and decided that we already have a number of very good sites on which we will concentrate our focus in the next three years.”

Barratt was shortlisted for the Peterborough scheme along with Gladedale; the One Peterborough consortium featuring Crest Nicholson and Bioregional Quintain; Carbon Challenge featuring Galliford Try and Cross Key Homes; the P Pod grouping led by Morris Homes and Gentoo; and a joint bid from Gleeson Plc and Stewart Milne.
