Rescuers are hunting through the debris looking for survivors after a crane collapsed in New York, killing four people and injuring 17.
Meanwhile construction crews brought in a mobile crane yesterday to remove the remains of the tower crane, which collapsed against an adjoining apartment building while being used in the construction of a high-rise block of flats. It is understood that a steel section fell during construction and cut a tie holding the crane to the side of the building.
The US construction firm Reliance Construction Group, which was main contractor on the development, said that the incident was an "absolute freak accident".
Meanwhile New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg dubbed it one of the city's worst construction accidents.
