Scottish and Southern Energy to build more hydroelectric plants

By Neil Gerrard

Power company Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) plans to build more hydro electric plants in Scotland to complement its growing wind farm business.

The company is understood to be pursuing two small hydro plants, according to the Scotsman.

SSE is already involved in building the 100MW Glendoe hydro electric plant near Loch Ness.

Chief executive Ian Marchant told the paper that hydro electric complemented wind farms because they provided a steady supply of electricity and were "more valuable as an asset" than they were a few years ago.
