Tenders are due to go out this autumn for a scheme to build a new £11.5m bus station in Rochdale, now that the government has stumped up £10m towards the project.
It is expected that work on site will start early in 2009, for completion during spring 2010.
The new interchange will be built on a brownfield site near the town centre and include a central waiting area, cafe, shops and toilets.
