Man killed by dumper on first day

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) are investigating the death of a man crushed beneath a dump truck that fell on him during his first day of work at the site.

Andrew Ferrie, 26, from Theydon Bois, was working at Kimpton Park Industrial Estate in Sutton on a dumper truck between the cab and its raised loading bed when the bed fell on him.

He died at the scene of massive head and neck injuries.

The accident happened within yards of a primary school on March 17, but students did not witness the incident.

Teesland iDG is regenerating disused land on the estate into 20 high-tech industrial units.

HSE said it was Ferrie’s first day on the site but that he had been working for a firm on the site for a few months.

It refused to name the firms involved or if any were under investigation.
