Taylor Woodrow is believed to have beaten rivals Birse Metro and Morgan Est to win £40m of modernisation and step-free access work on London Underground’s Queensway and South Kensington stations.
The work is packaged into two contracts let via London Underground’s (LUL’s) Alternative Provider framework.
The step-free access work will range from installing raised platform areas for easier access to trains to major lift installation schemes. The South Kensington station package also includes modernisation work.
The two contracts are part of LUL’s £800m programme to introduce step-free access to 50% of London Underground stations over the next 10 years.
The five-year Alternative Provider framework was set up by London Underground in 2006 to deliver works outside the London Underground Public Private Partnerships programme. Its three framework members are Birse Metro, Morgan Est and Taylor Woodrow.
Meanwhile, bids from the 18 shortlisted bidders for the first framework to be let under LUL’s £450m Vendor capital programme are due in next week. The shortlist will be shaved to a final eight to 16 firms by July.
