Kent Police is to launch a major crackdown on plant thefts from building sites.
The crackdown comes after an increasing number of machinery thefts in the area with construction equipment being shipped off to Europe where equipment is currently in short supply.
As part of the move, Kent Police officers will be visiting building sites to discuss security measures such as marking machinery with UV markers, paint and livery stickers.
The force will also be carrying out night time spot checks on lorries in and around the Kent area, including the Channel Tunnel.
Kent Police’s inspector Roscoe Walford said: “'People find it harder to get builders and other tradesmen to do work for them because insurance companies demand high premiums or won't insure businesses because of the increasing number of claims they make.
Stating his intent Walford added: “If you belong to a gang that steals heavy machinery we are watching you and will do everything possible to bring you before the courts.
