Polish construction workers lured home

The construction industry could lose its Polish workers, if a campaign to lure the migrants back home is successful.

The Warsaw government is so worried about a national labour shortage in construction and hospitality that it will advertise in UK newspapers to encourage Poles to return home.

It has produced a brochure to give away with Polish newspapers and at cultural centres in Britain advising Poles how to find accommodation and jobs back home.

But there is already mounting evidence many Poles are heading back east, particularly because the current weakness in Britain’s currency means they are getting fewer zlotys for their pounds, the Times reported.

The government has estimated an extra 200,000 workers are needed to build new football stadiums before the European championships in 2012.
