Planners have given the go-ahead to Prince Charles' new Devon eco-development, billed as Britain’s greenest town.
The settlement, called Sherford new town, is to be built on farmland on the edge of Plymouth by 2020.
It will house 12,000 people, was masterplanned by the Prince's Foundation for the Built Environment, and is backed by a private consortium including the Royal Bank of Scotland and developer Red Tree.
It is intended that at least half of all Sherford’s energy will be derived from renewable sources, which will include turbines and solar panels. It is also hoped that CO2 emissions will be 60% lower than required by building regulations, the Guardian reported.
