Government plans to ease the housing crisis are on the brink of collapse.
With a target of 240,000 news builds a year, only 200,000 were completed in 2007 putting the plans in jeopardy. The Office for National Statistics also stated public housing orders were down by 36%, with private housing orders down by 29%.
This has come as a huge blow for the Government as plans for two million news homes by 2016 seem no longer feasible.
Coupled with this Persimmon, one of Britain’s largest builder’s has put new builds on hold due to a 24% drop in sales in this year alone, the Independent reported.
