No-Pins in the kerb

By Colin Sowman

Leading highways contractor Ringway has created a simple device that avoids the use of pins in kerbing works.

As No-Pins avoids the need to drive pins into the ground, there is no risk of service strikes.

The system was invented by site agent Steve Manser and uses a tripod-mounted upright with an adjustable horizontal support to hold the line. It is adjustable for height, angle and length.

A boxed set of six No-Pins costs £799, but can be cost effective as the system is infinitely reusable whereas traditional pins are usually lost or stolen and cannot normally be recovered at the end of the job. One of Ringway's jobs in Kent used 600 pins with only 40 recovered from the site.

SED visitors can see No-Pins on A-Plant's stand.
