By Neil Gerrard

Images of five shortlisted designs for the 'Angel of the South' - a £2m project to create a sculpture in Ebbsfleet alongside the Channel Tunnel Rail Link - have been released today.

The proposals for the Ebbsfleet Landmark by artists Daniel Buren, Richard Deacon, Christopher Le Brun, Mark Wallinger and Rachel Whiteread will go on show to the public at Bluewater shopping centre.

2) Rachel Whiteread's idea is to build a craggy, ‘recycled mountain’, on top of which would sit a life-size cast interior of a house.

3) Christopher Le Brun's plan is for a huge wing and disc, a reference to the winged messenger of Mercury, the Roman god of travellers and commerce, and to the history of the Roman presence in the area.
