Connect Plus wins £4.5bn M25 contract

The Highways Agency has announced Connect Plus as the provisional preferred bidder for the £4.5bn M25 DBFO (Design, Finance, Build and Operate contract).

The consortium consisting of Balfour Beatty, Skanska, Atkins and Egis Projects, was tipped by CJ last month as the project frontrunner.

The contract encompasses the maintenance and widening of 102km of the M25 and is one of the largest ever road projects in the UK.

Connect Plus beat off stiff competition from the Flow consortium (Vinci, Autoroutes De Sud De La France, Laing Roads, Carillion, Costain, Ringway, Mouchel Parkman, Norwest Holst and Jacobs) and a group consisting of Amey, Laing O’Rourke and Ferrovial Agroman.

The Highways Agency said it expected to award the contract in late 2008.

Work is expected to begin early 2009.
