Forklift manufacturer RDS has introduced a system designed to inform operators of the weight they have on the forks and whether they are exceeding safe load limits.
The Liftalert uses a sensor to measure hydraulic pressure in the system and, as a result, provides a means of recording the weight being lifted.
A series of LCD lights on a cab-mounted monitor warns the operator if the weight is approaching safe limits by providing an audible warning at 90% of permitted load and a continuous audible alarm and flashing lights should 100% is reached. Forklifts working in extremely noisy conditions can be fitted with and external audible alarm and external light warning system.
The Liftlog 100 unit incorporates the system employed by Liftalert but is also able to inform the operator of the actual weight being lifted and carried.
This feature, says RDS, increases loading safety in yards and warehouses by allowing correct and even loading of storage pallets in respect of the weight they may contain.
It also allows check weighing of incoming and outgoing goods and increases vehicle efficiency overall.
