Kier has locked up a deal worth between £20m to £30m to revamp Elmley Prison at Sheerness on the Isle of Sheppey, Kent.
The scheme is part of the Prison Service's £3bn national framework deal which involves the refurb of 137 prisons.
Interserve, Carillion, Shepherd and Wates are among the other contractors on the framework deal which will run for a maximum of 10 years.
Elmley opened in 1992 and will now be revamped to ease chronic over- crowding.
The Ministry of Justice is developing plans for a new house block at Elmley, but planners have still to give the project the green light.
