Barratt unveils 'first' zero carbon home by volume housebuilder

Barratt have introduced what they claim to be the first zero-carbon home by a volume housebuilder.

The home, known as Barratt’s Green House, has been developed at the Buildings Research Establishment in Watford.

This development incorporates solar panels, rainwater harvesting, triple glazed windows and newly developed concrete walls. It is planned to be first used on the site of Hanham Hall hospital near Bristol reports the Guardian.

Barratt’s house signifies an important breakthrough as government legislation demands that all homes must be zero carbon by 2016.
