Taylor Wimpey is closing 13 of its regional offices resulting in hundreds of job cuts.
Staff were told of the plans on Monday as a consultation process began on a savage round of redundancies.
The closures represent more than a third of the housebuilder’s regional network. Four George Wimpey offices and nine Bryant Homes operations will be closed.
An internal email was sent round to the housebuilder’s 4,700 UK employees yesterday outlining the plans.
The Taylor Wimpey cuts come as the gloom surrounding the housebuilding market deepens.
Crest Nicholson announced a 10 per cent cut in staff last week with 80 people shown the door. Countryside Properties and Redrow have also announced redundancies.
Taylor Wimpey first started to show signs of financial problems earlier this year when its Bryant Homes arm demanded a 5 per cent cut in previously submitted bills from trade contractors.
