Sustainable Development Commission: re-think needed on airport expansion

By Daniel Franklin

An influential advisory body has called on the government to re-think its proposals for airport expansion in the UK.

The Sustainable Development Commission has today voiced its concerns over the economic and environmental arguments which the government has used to justify the expansion.

SDC member Hugh Raven, told the Guardian: “A lot of basic data upon which important decisions will be made is heavily contested.”

The SDC believes that further investigations need to be carried out independently before any expansion could take place, reports the Guardian.
