Amey Ventures, Balfour Beatty and Land Securities are in the spotlight for a £64m deal to replace most of Coventry's streetlighting.
The three firms were shortlisted this week for the privately financed (PFI) scheme which will see 80% of the city's 32,000 streetlights replaced.
A preferred bidder will be chosen early next year. The 25 year contract will see the winning firm replace or refurbish all streetlighting in the first five years and then maintain the system for the next twenty years.
Coventry City Council was one of a number of councils that secured funding for streetlighting projects from the Department for Transport earlier this year.
Councillor Hazel Noonan, cabinet member for City Services, said: "We're confident the successful bidder will do a first class job for Coventry and we're currently working hard to ensure local needs are met."
