McGee Group: entire workforce hold CSCS card

McGee Group, the demolition and civil engineering contractor, has reported that its entire workforce now holds a Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card.

The achievement is the result of a spend of £81,000 on training courses, net of CITB grants.

McGee adds that all demolition operatives have the Competency Certificate for Demolition Operatives (CCDO) qualification, and as a result: “the group continues to carry out some of the most complex and intricate work available”.

The information is contained in the group’s annual accounts, published at Companies House.

As previously announced by McGee, turnover of £57m in the 12 months to 31 May 2007, resulted in a pre-tax profit of £3.6m.

During the year in question the group invested £2.2m in plant and machinery, following a £3m spend in the previous year - the aim being to “keep the fleet and machinery at the high quality needed to serve our customers”.

After paying out a dividend of £960,000 in the previous year there was no dividend at all this time round.

There was a provision of £310,000 for liabilities. This follows a £510,000 figure in the previous year.

Net assets rose from £8.1m to £10.3m.

With 328 employees now on the pay-roll, the bill for wages and salaries rose to £11.7m.

The highest-paid director had reason to smile as his take-home tally ran to £740,000 as in addition to a pay of £250,000 there was a performance-related enhancement of £470,000 as well as £18,000 to keep his pension pot filling.

In the previous year his total ran to £640,000 which included a £410,000 performance-related element.

Three of the directors are controlling shareholders of Polo Land. During the year a loan of £393,000 was written off as being unrecoverable.

During the year McGee Group paid rent of £220,000 into the SIPP pension plans of four directors who own the head office of the company.

Also, the McGee company incurred costs of £500,000 on improving this property.
